Evelyn Altman’s creative life encompassed painting, drawing, poetry, and music. Her artwork ranges from portraits and familiar objects to landscapes and imagined worlds.
Learning and exhibiting
According to her biographical record, Evelyn studied under Carlos Lopez at the Detroit Art Academy and pursued advanced painting with a professor at San Francisco State University.
She exhibited at the Detroit Art Institute and Millbrae Library, as well as banks and title companies on California’s San Francisco Peninsula. A solo exhibition at the Spanish Town Gallery in Half Moon Bay featured 20 of her paintings.
Beyond the canvas
Evelyn also published poetry in the Detroit News and wrote the words and music for three published songs.
